The build
A single-vine routing puzzle on a hexagonal frame. 240 hand-built boards, no timers, no lives, no ads in the puzzle view.
Vinework started as a paper prototype cut from graph card. The rule has never changed: you have one vine, it may branch, and every cell it enters must eventually flower. Everything else in the game is in service of that rule.
The hard problem was board authoring. Generated boards solved too cleanly and felt boring, so we built an in-house editor that lets a designer place constraints by hand and then proves solvability with a solver before the board can be committed. All 240 boards shipped through that gate.
On the store side we kept the monetisation deliberately thin — one paid unlock, no rewarded video inside a puzzle. Day-30 retention landed at 41%, which is roughly double what we modelled, and refund rate sits under half a percent.
